A 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck southern Taiwan early on Saturday, devastating the city of Tainan,
resulting in the collapse of multiple buildings, including a 16-story block of residential flats.
The earthquake hit the region at 03:57 local time. Police and emergency workers were immediately deployed to the collapsed block of flats which may have hundreds of people trapped inside.
According to the Central Weather Bureau, the earthquake's epicenter was located in Kaohsiung City's Meinong District, at a depth of 17 kilometers (10 miles).
