Dallas police chief David Brown held a press conference at Dallas City Hall, Saturday, as a standoff continues between police and an armed suspect following an incident in which a man in an armoured vehicle rammed a police car before opening fire on the street outside the Dallas Police Department headquarters in the early hours of the morning. Discussing the motivation behind the attack, Brown said that the suspect told the police negotiator that authorities took his child and accused him of being a terrorist. The Dallas police chief said that the suspect identified himself as James Boulware, a white male, 5'10" in height and weighing 200 lbs (91 kg), but this information has not yet been confirmed. Brown also stated that according to witnesses there may have been up to four suspects involved in the attack on the police HQ. Brown also confirmed that four suspicious bags were discovered in front of the Dallas PD headquarters, one of which contained a pipebomb. No one was injured in the initial attack on the Dallas PD headquarters which sparked a mass police pursuit of the vehicle. Dallas SWAT were called in following the shooting and a highway standoff is currently underway with police cornering the armoured car on Interstate 45, near Hutchins. Police have the vehicle surrounded and the SWAT team are attempting to negotiate with the suspect. According to local media reports, more gunshots have been fired since the standoff began and police have expressed concerns that the vehicle may be loaded with explosives.
