Hundreds of people attended the traditional Vijanera festival in the Spanish town of Silio on Sunday. The masquerade with its roots in the pre-Roman times involves a number of characters taking part in pagan rituals.
La Vijanera takes place on the first Sunday of the year opening the calendar of carnival events across Europe.
This year more than 150 participants in dozens of nature-themed costumes took part in the festivities which were held in Silio for the 38th time
