Thirty Christian refugees from Iraq settled in a small recreation centre in the village of Cizov near the Czech town of Jihlava, with the centre's organisers - volunteers from the Generace 21 Foundation - giving a tour of the site, Tuesday.
The centre provides various commodities for the refugees to use before they are relocated to cities across the Czech Republic. The site offers lessons in Czech, has a common room where refugees can socialise and play the piano, as well as general amenities.
Generace 21 Foundation spokesperson said "We cannot save everyone so we decided to help to 153 people and we decided to save the Christians because they are one of the most endangered groups there."
A refugee at the centre, Majid Rashid Kurdi, said that he feels "very happy" but that he would be happier if "I was living among my people in Iraq." Kurdi also added that their bodies may be in the Czech Republic, but that their hearts were back in their hometown of Erbil.
