Russia: Putin and Abbas meet to discuss Middle East situation

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas visited Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Monday, to hold talks on the situation in the Middle East, telling Putin that "we highly appreciate the cooperation with your country and the efforts of Russia to solve the Palestinian problem." The two leaders also held talks over trade and the economic situation between both countries, with Putin stating "I am glad to note that relations between Palestine and Russia were developing and strengthening constantly." Abbas thanked Putin for Russia's role in the region, stating that the "constant presence of Russia in the region is very important for us." The Palestinian president is also due to meet Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev to discuss economic and investment issues.
