17.04.2015
Restoration of the Spasskaya Tower in Moscow's Kremlin entered its final phase on Friday, with the edifice's Kremlin Clock restored to its former glory after undergoing restoration work since December 2014. The current clock, known to locals as the 'Kremlin Chimes,' was installed on Spasskaya Tower in 1767 after a fire damaged the previous clock in 1737. It was last repaired in 1999. The Spasskaya Tower ('Saviour Tower') was built in 1491 by Italian architect Pietro Antonio Solari. Its name derives from an icon of Christ the Saviour which once featured above the gates of the tower, but was removed after the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.
