Russian President Vladimir Putin entertained Prince Albert II of Monaco at the ‘The Romanovs and the Grimaldi: Three centuries of history” exhibition, in Moscow on Thursday. The exhibition has been put on to celebrate the ten year anniversary of renewed relations between Monaco and Russia.
The exhibition contains more than 170 objects including archival documents such as photographs and letters and other materials, from three centuries of shared history.
One of the most valuable pieces is an egg-clock made by Carl Faberge in 1887, as a gift for Empress Maria Fedorovna. The egg has been in the Prince of Monaco’s collection since 1974, when it was presented by Prince Rainier III to his wife Princess Grace.
The event is part of the so-called ‘Week of Monaco,' which is timed to mark the 10th anniversary of the resumption of relations between Russia and Monaco which were suspended in 1917.
