"We do not have any conflict of interests with Russia over Syria," Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stated over the recent air space dispute, during a press conference in Ankara, Wednesday. "We do not have any conflict of interests with Russia over Syria," Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stated over the recent air space dispute, during a press conference in Ankara, Wednesday. The remarks come after Russian aircraft allegedly violated Turkish air space on October 3 and 4 for several seconds after bad weather in the region. Davutoglu went on to say "Russia must take into consideration our concern over the situation. We are friends and neighbours with Russia. But Turkey cannot ignore the security issues of our borders." The Turkish prime minister emphasised that he doesn't want the Syrian crisis to encroach on the good relations Turkey has with Russia. Russia's Sukhoi Su-25 fighter jets, Su-24M and Su-34 bombers commenced bombardments on the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) positions in Syria on September 30. The strikes were approved by Syrian President Bashar Assad as the militant group continues to ravage and destabilise the region.
