Slovenian academic Slavoj Zizek, who has been dubbed, 'the most dangerous philosopher in the West', blasted liberals at the annual Left Forum for being so politically correct, a tactic he says only fuels the rise of the right wing in Europe, in New York, Sunday evening.
The controversial author was interrupted several times by attendees who claimed that he is racist, one heckler shouted "you're full of sh*t", to which Zizek replied, "see that is the problem [...] what the left doesn't need is the beautification of refugees." He elaborated that such a view would underestimate the effects of poverty. "I'm sorry to tell you, but poverty doesn't make noble people!" he said.
Zizek also commented on the Austrian elections, saying that the success of far-right presidential candidate Norbert Hofer Norbert Hofer "tells more about us Europeans than about immigrants", adding, "the true question is not immigrants' real threat to Europe, but what does this obsession with the immigrant threat tell us about today's Europe?" he said.
