Germany: Pro-Kurdish protesters march through Frankfurt

24.01.2016
More than 1,000 pro-Kurdish activists took to the streets of Frankfurt, Saturday, to march in solidarity with Kurds in Turkey and to denounce the Turkish government's offensive against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
Protesters waved Kurdish flags and held banners in support of the PKK, including a picture of the organisation's founder Abdullah Ocalan. At the end of the march a rally was held and speeches were given.
Turkish security forces have launched a large-scale security operation in south-eastern Turkey, which began on December 14 and has involved the imposition of curfews, aerial bombing, and mass detention in areas of unrest. Turkey claims it has killed at least 173 members of the outlawed PKK since July, but human rights groups claim that at least 100 civilians have died in the fighting during the same period.
