President Vladimir Putin awarded five cities with the title of 'City of Military Glory' in the Kremlin in Moscow, Monday. The award is dedicated to special actions during the Second World War. Among the cities awarded were Gatchina, Grozny, Petrozavodsk, Staraya Russa and Feodosia for showing courage, steadfastness and heroism while battling the Nazis. The event is part of the commemorations marking 74 years since the Nazis launched their invasion of the Soviet Union. Earlier on Monday, Putin laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Aleksandrovskiy Garden to pay his respects to the fallen Soviets, over 26 million of whom died in WWII. The Russian leader was joined by Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev, Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko and Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu.
