Material in the Saudi consulate has been painted over since the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters in Ankara on Tuesday.
"My hope is that we can a reach conclusion that will give us a reasonable opinion as soon as possible, because the investigation is looking into many things such as toxic materials and those materials being removed by painting them over, " he said.
Turkish officials allege that Khashoggi was murdered and dismembered in the building by Saudi agents and claim to have found evidence to support these allegations. According to the official Saudi news agency, an official at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul denied any wrongdoing and condemned the allegations.
On the release of evangelical pastor Andrew Brunson to the US, Erdogan said to US President Donald Trump: “Trust the Turkish judiciary. But don't take the road of trying to get any result from us through threats.”
