A cart drawn by a robot dressed in a Japanese World War II soldier's uniform attracted a lot of attention in Luoyang, China on Saturday, as the mustachioed model ushered around its creator.
Inventor Duan Shaojie, himself a retired Chinese soldier, designed and built what has locally become known as the "Japanese Devil Rickshaw" robot, capable of towing one person in a cart. Whoever sits in the cart can command the robot to walk, run and turn.
Luoyang is located in the Henan province, an area on the frontline of the conflict between Japanese and Chinese soldiers during WWII. Shaojie touched on this topic when talking about his future ambitions to build more robots: "I want to build a series of robots on the theme of resistance against Japanese aggression in order to honour the heroes who sacrificed for our country."
