PEGIDA leader Lutz Bachmann spoke to a 20,000-strong crowd of supporters alongside former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson at a rally in Dresden's Theaterplaz on Monday evening. The protesters, who were marking the first anniversary of PEGIDA's formation, carried signs with slogans such as "We are the people", and "Merkel has to go", denouncing the German Chancellor's stance in the refugee crisis. Around 2,000 police from six German states were deployed throughout the city to keep the rally under control. Around 14,000 pro-refugee activists demonstrated against the rally.
