Russia: Creating dialogue between Damascus and opposition is 'main aim' in Syria - Zakharova

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Russia's main aim in Syria was to establish dialogue between the government and the opposition in the country during a press conference in Moscow, Thursday. "Everything we do and all the negotiations we conduct are aimed at the establishment of dialogue between the opposition and Damascus," Zakharova stated. "The establishment of a consultative and substantive dialogue" between the goverment and opposition is the Foreign Ministry's "main aim", she added. Zakharova also noted that Moscow was monitoring the relationship between NATO and Georgia, with regards to the safety of Russia's allies South Ossetia and Abkhazia, stating that "any new development of NATO-Georgian cooperation will be duly taken into account." It was the first of Zakharova's weekly briefings since becoming the first female Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson ever on August 10.
