A number of shops, including high street chains such as Yamamay and Mango, had their windows smashed and their facades covered with graffiti during a feminist protest decrying patriarchy and capitalism in Barcelona, Tuesday. Rallying under the slogan "Strike for All", the march was organised to highlight the poor conditions many females in Spain have to work in, with 73 percent of the country's part-time employment being made up of women. The protest was also designed to highlight the pressure that women feel to adhere to patriarchal fashion trends and beauty standards such as following the perceived 'social norm' with regard to clothing sizes. Many shops closed as the demonstration was taking place and police arrived at the scene to prevent further damage to retail outlets and to ensure the protest remained relatively calm.
