Turkey: Violent clashes between pro-Kurdish protesters and police continue in Istanbul

Violent clashes between pro-Kurdish protesters and police continued in the mostly Kurdish district of Gazi in Istanbul, Sunday, after authorities continued raiding homes in search for suspected members of the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS, ISIL), the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). Resident of Gazi took to the streets for another evening as Turkish police deployed water cannon trucks and fired tear gas canisters against the protesters who threw Molotov cocktails at police vehicles and built barricades, setting some on fire. As well as the Islamic State and the PKK, the Turkish raids also targetted suspected members of the PKK's youth wing the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H) and the Marxist Revolutionary People's Liberation Party Front (DHKP-C).
