Oil-covered pelicans that were affected by Wednesday's oil spill in Santa Barbara, arrived at the Los Angeles Oiled Bird Care and Education Center, Friday, where volunteers helped clean up the oil-slicked birds. A total of eight heavily oiled pelicans were brought to the centre. Doctor Christie Fiorello, the veterinarian responsible for the Oiled Wildlife Care Network which is taking in birds that arrive from the Santa Barbara area said she hopes that "we've seen the worst of it." Around 21,000 gallons (79,500 litres) of crude oil leaked from a ruptured pipeline in Goleta on Tuesday, flowing into the ocean near Santa Barbara, California. The 24-inch (60 cm) diameter pipeline, owned by Plains All American Pipeline, was shut down and blocked to prevent more oil from spilling into the ocean.
