Turkish security forces used water cannon in an attempt to push fleeing Syrian refugees away from Turkish-Syrian border near the town of Akcakale, Sunday. Thousands of Syrian refugees from the ISIS-held town of Tel Abyad have been seeking asylum in Turkey after the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), backed by Syrian rebels and US-led coalition airstrikes, began to advance on the ISIS stronghold, which is close to the Turkish border. A YPG spokesman told press that fighters from the Kurdish militia were engaged with ISIS fighters on the outskirts of Tel Abyad on Sunday. The Turkish health ministry has confirmed that 13,000 Syrians have already crossed the border into Turkey.
