Emergency services continued to search for survivors in the southern Taiwanese city of Tainan, Saturday, after a deadly 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck the city in the early hours of the morning.
The earthquake, which hit the region at 03:57 local time (19:57 GMT on Friday), resulted in the collapse of several buildings, including a 16-story block of residential flats. At least 12 people were killed and more than 30 remain missing, with many thought to be trapped inside partially collapsed buildings.
Police and emergency workers were immediately deployed to the areas affected by the quake.
According to the Central Weather Bureau, the earthquake's epicentre was located in Kaohsiung City's Meinong District, at a depth of 17 kilometres (10 miles).
