An estimated 4,000 people attended a rally opposing Germany's refugee policy on Wednesday in the city of Erfurt. The protesters gathered on Cathedral Square after making their way through the city centre. German flags were waved and signs depicting derogatory pictures of Merkel were on display. Protesters called for German Chancellor Angela Merkel to resign and praised the refugee policy of Hungary. Demonstrators voiced their concerns over what they see as a rise in 'economic refugees' arriving in Germany. One man said "refugees that are real refugees, I don't have a problem to accommodate them for a specific time. But economic refugees. They are not supposed to be here." Merkel recently claimed that Germany maintains robust policies to prevent economic migrants from entering the country under a humanitarian guise. She urged German society to "pay its dues to globilisation," by providing sanctuary to refugees.
