Voters turned out to poll stations across New Jersey's Newark, Tuesday, as the Democratic primaries kick off in the north eastern state as the last 'Super Tuesday' in the Democratic presidential election got underway.
The vote began after reports from US news agencies that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had 'clinched' the nomination, allegedly meeting the number of delegates to take the position. Competitor Bernie Sanders and protesters have criticised the early call, saying that it is premature.
Sanders supporters were out at the polling stations, with New Jersey local Joe Garavente saying "Oh this fight is not over, even if she manages to thieve her way to this nomination."
As part of the last 'Super Tuesday', delegates in California, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota and South Dakota will all be up for grabs hold caucuses, with the Calafornia offering 475 pledged delegates to fight for.
Clinton allegedly reached the 2,383 delegates needed to secure the vote for the Democratic nomination. However on hearing the news, Sanders said that she had not officially won the nomination as she is still dependent on super-delegates who will convene to vote in July's party convention.
