The Russian Helicopters company showed off a new version of the Mil Mi-35M at the Kazakhstan Defence Expo-2016 in Astana, Thursday. After the presentation, the Kazakh Defence Ministry immediately placed an order for four helicopters, which are to be delivered by the end of 2016.
The Mil Mi-35M was made for export and is a modernised version of the multi-purpose attack helicopter Mil Mi-24BM, that entered production in 2005. The chopper has a powerful new VK-2500 engine manufactured by the Klimov Bureau and a revamped design that allows for effective use in high temperatures and altitudes.
The helicopter also includes a 23 mm double-barrelled gun, both guided and unguided missiles and bombs on board which are able to destroy enemy armour.
According to Russian Helicopters’ Deputy CEO Alexander Shcherbinin, the helicopters are assembled in Russia and then delivered to the Central Asian market. "Our holding company is open to cooperation in the assembly and the further advancement of helicopters on that market," he added.
