Sudan Governor Quoted Saying Rebels Kill 136 Civilians During Poll

Sudanese newspapers are quoting a governor as saying that rebels have killed 136 civilians in attacks during the presidential election that ended last week. Independent daily newspaper Al-Jarida and other papers quoted the governor of South Kordofan state, Adam al-Faki, as saying that rebels targeted civilian areas in order to disrupt the vote, adding that 150 people were wounded. Al-Faki did not respond to requests for comment. Polling centers for the election closed on Thursday and results are expected on April 27. President Omar al-Bashir is expected to extend his 25-year rule following an opposition boycott of the vote.
