Russia: 'Interest in Russian arms in the world is growing' - Putin

25.04.2017
The termination of military and technical cooperation between Kiev and Moscow has contributed towards the growth of industry in Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Military-Industrial Commission in Rybinsk, Tuesday.
Putin recalled that up until 2014 Russia had purchased gas turbine ship engines from Ukraine, stating that "it was not our fault that the cooperation disintegrated." He noted, "we were forced to deal with import substitution and, frankly speaking, it benefited us from a technological point of view."
The president explained that "from December 2014 to the present day, we have created a new scientific branch and a new industry."
Putin went on to tout the growth of Russian arms exports, stating that "interest in Russian arms in the world is growing, we can see this." He added, "we see it not only in public political statements, but also in the volume of contracts, those that have been executed and those being performed. This is also due to the effective use of our weapons in real, combat conditions, including the anti-terrorist operation in Syria."
The Russian leader emphasised however that Moscow was ready to go back to cooperating with Ukraine if "the relevant conditions are created for this."
