23.07.2015
Alexander Hug, the Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Mission to Ukraine, stated in reference to the shelling in Donetsk on July 18 and 19, that his organisation has "reported the direction of the shelling, but not who has been in shelling," in a press conference in Donetsk, Thursday. Hug also complained about a "vandalism of 30 OSCE vehicles" which happened during a "well-orchestrated" protest in front of the hotel where the OSCE mission is residing. Hug added that the vandalism was "unacceptable" and urged DPR representatives in the city to meet with him regarding the issue. Artillery attacks have been ramped up in Donetsk following the announcement that the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR/LNR) planned to carry out a unilateral withdrawal of weapons of less than 100mm calibre from the lines of engagement in Ukraine. The DPR militias began carrying out the withdrawal from the frontline of the conflict of Donetsk, Sunday July 19, under supervision of the OSCE in a bid to implement Minsk agreement protocols. Following the announcement, forces loyal to Kiev carried out a large shelling attack on the city of Donetsk. Almost 50 Minsk violations occurred in the region's capital on Saturday alone, according to DPR Deputy Defence Minister Eduard Basurin. The city council has since stated that 18 buildings in the Kyibyshevsky, Kievsky and Voroshilovsky districts of Donetsk were destroyed during the attack, with at least one civilian left dead.
