German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble said that "at the moment it is relatively probable that the sanctions [against Russia] will have to be extended," during a press conference with foreign correspondents in Berlin, Thursday.
"The attitude of the federal government is very clear: rather today than tomorrow, we would like to have a better relationship with Russia, but this is not a unilateral process," Schauble commented.
Schauble also spoke about the debt relief deal for Greece that was achieved early on Wednesday with the International Monetary Fund and the EU, by stating that "I don't believe that Greece has received inside Europe, but also outside of Europe, more solidarity the last months than from the German Federal Republic. And maybe the Greek media should start explaining that to the Greek people."
During the press conference Schauble discussed as well the issue of UK leaving the EU. He said "We had long talks with Great Britain, we agreed on a package with the Cameron government, and now the Brits will take a decision about it. But we won't be able to say 'maybe we shouldn't take this too seriously'."
