Former FIFA Vice President Cites Satirical 'The Onion' Article in Video Rant

If you're building a case in your defense, you should take care not to quote satirical articles.
Former vice president of FIFA Jack Warner, currently accused of corruption, did just that: The New York Times reported that he cited an article from The Onion in a video message on his site Sunday.
The article in question is titled “FIFA Frantically Announces 2015 Summer World Cup in the United States," and jokingly claims that FIFA has introduced an additional World Cup competition, held in the U.S. and starting "later this afternoon." The article adds that at the time of publication the U.S. soccer team has been awarded 12 penalties in the first three minutes of the opening match against Germany.
The satire was lost on Warner, however, who held out a printout of the article and cited it several times. Even worse, he gets the name of the competition wrong, calling it the "Olympic final."
