An hungry sea lion pup was found awaiting breakfast at an upscale restaurant in San Diego, Thursday. Cleaner's at the Marine Room restaurant discovered the creature in one of the eatery's exclusive sea-view booths early in the morning. It is not clear how the sea lion managed to get inside.
SeaWorld's rescue team arrived on the scene to find the 8-month-old pup sleeping peacefully, and promptly transported it to the local Animal Rescue Center where it was found to be "extremely malnourished and dehydrated." Rescuers reported that the creature weighed just 20 lbs (9kg), half of what it should be, and had fluid coming out its left eye.
Once the lion's health condition has stabilised, the animal will be returned to the wild. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 3,340 young sea lions were found stranded in the first five months of 2015, many of them were emaciated pups.
