Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) sat down for a working dinner at the 33rd ASEAN summit at the Suntec Convention Centre in Singapore on Tuesday.
Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who is chairing the event, told the others around the table that there are three dominant trends shaping the region. According to Lee these common themes include, "retreating from multilateralism and globalisation" as well as the threat of "non-traditional transnational threats" and the potentially disruptive effects of "digital technologies."
The four-day event sees representatives from the 10 ASEAN member states as well as from the region's major economies meet to discuss economic, trade, security, investment and development opportunities in South East Asia.
