Around 200 people held a candlelight vigil in Chicago's Federal Plaza, Wednesday, to commemorate the first-anniversary of the death of Sandra Bland, a black woman who died in her prison cell after being stopped by police for minor offenses.
The vigil included prayers, poetry readings and gospel music performances. The event was hosted by group supporting female victims of police violence, Women's All Points Bulletin.
Sandra Bland died on July 13, 2015, in her cell in Waller county jail, Hempstead, Texas. Originally ruled a suicide, it is alleged that she was found hanging in her cell three days after she was arrested over a minor traffic incident.
