Tens of thousands took to the streets in Rome, Saturday, to protest against the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the EU and the United States.
Protesters gathered on San Giovanni Square, held anti-TTIP banners with slogans such as "American chicken filled with hormones on our tables? Stop TTIP", "People before profits", and "Free circulation? Not capital, but people," and chanted slogans denouncing the treaty.
Loretta Boni, a protester, stated that "Rather than helping us, this treaty can only damage our agriculture, our work and our services. Firstly, because it accelerates privatisation, and secondly because big corporations will rule over European governments." The protest was organised by the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), one of the country's biggest trade unions.
