Germany: Clashes strike as riot police swarm Berlin for anti-capitalist march

02.09.2016
Protesters from the anti-capitalist group Blockupy rallied through Berlin on Friday, with a heavy police presence on hand to guard against altercations.
The group has several actions planned for Berlin during the weekend, including a blockade of the German Federal Labour and Social Affairs Ministry. The Blockupy movement accuses the Ministry, headed by the SPD's Andrea Nahles, of promoting the politics of exploitation, social division and exclusion, specifically in reference to the country's refugee integration laws.
A large contingent of police from different areas of the country is expected in Berlin, since the last major Blockupy protest in Germany, in March 2015 in Frankfurt, ended up in violent clashes between around 4,000 protesters and police.
