A black Labrador Retriever dog has adopted liger three cubs, a feline born from a lion and a tiger, in the zoo of Sochi, Friday. Their mother rejected them shortly after they were born ten days ago. Grona, as the Labrador is called, was brought in to look after the cubs by the zookeepers. After some coaching, Grona accepted the ligers as her own offspring, nursing and cleaning them instead of their biological parents, a tigress called Marusya and a lion called Simba. The liger is a hybrid cross between a male lion and a female liger. Ligers are believed to be the largest of all known existant felines with males reaching a total length of 3 to 3.6m (9’10” to 12ft). They exist only in captivity and are often genetically or physically sterile and therefore unable to reproduce and continue their lineage.
