Qualcomm Plots To Take Over The Internet Of Things

As competition for Internet of Things dominance heats up, Qualcomm is hoping its technology will power billions of the next generation of wearables, connected cars and appliances. Qualcomm president Derek Aberle revealed during a press event in San Francisco Thursday that the company's latest goal to have its chips in five billion connected devices by 2018. The company also unveiled two wifi chips that will help enable this goal by powering a range of sensor-enabled devices in the home. Getting to five billion non-smartphone devices in the next three years is an ambitious goal for the chipmaker, but Aberle noted Qualcomm has been active in the space for longer than many of its competitors.
