There is mounting evidence that "terrorists are trying to leave the war zone [in Syria] disguised as refugees to carry out terrorist acts," Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) director Alexander Bortnikov said at a meeting in Nalchik, Kabardino-Balkar Republic, on Tuesday. He added that "there is a lot of evidence" for such claims. "The latest such example is the detention on October 11 in Moscow of 12 Russian citizens who were members and supporters of international terrorist organizations, who prepared attacks on public transportation facilities," he said. During that raid a bomb disposal team had to be called after 5 kg (11 lbs) of explosives were discovered which were apparently to be used in an attack. Earlier, the Lefortovo district court sanctioned the arrest all of the suspects on terror charges and remanded them in pretrial custody. Bortnikov also said that ground operations by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's troops and Russian airstrikes have "led to the dispersal of a number of clusters of fighters."
