USA: Hollande confirms French airstrikes against ISIS in Syria

French President Francois Hollande confirmed that French fighter jets carried out airstrikes against an Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) training camp in the east of Syria whilst speaking to reporters at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York City, Sunday. "This morning in Syria France attacked a training camp of the terrorist group Daesh which is threatening the security of our country. The strike took place against a camp close to Areso in the east of Syria," Hollande stated, adding that "other strikes could take place in the coming weeks if necessary." During his address Hollande made clear that he believed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to be "the main person responsible" for the conflict that has left close to 250,000 dead and stated that "France considers that the future of Syria does not have Bashar in it."
