Residents started returning home on Friday after the Syrian army drove Islamists of the al-Nusra Front out of the villages of Fura and Bahsa. The advance was so swift that the Islamists even abandoned some of their weapons and ammunition including home-made artillery pieces nicknamed the 'Hell Cannons.' A government soldier said they "overcame tremendous resistance, and we broke it - driving the Jihadists North. We will continue to sweep terror out of Syria". Those residents who fled have not found much to come back to with the battle for control of the villages taking its toll on built up areas. Those who were able to identify their homes found their possessions missing, damaged, destroyed, vandalised or even sometimes defecated on. One woman commented that "this is my son's house - we are going to have to leave for good. We can't live here anymore. It was all fine, until Nusra came."
