Russia’s Transaero Airlines paraded their Boeing passenger plane bearing the dramatic livery of a Siberian Tiger at Vnukovo Airport in the Moscow Region, Thursday. The choice of design is part of a bid to draw attention to the plight of the endangered animal. The airline hopes that the striking image on the 747-400 passenger plane will help build an international approach to solving the problems of tiger poaching. Transaero has recently joined with the Amur Tiger Centre, presenting their joint motto, ‘Let’s save nature together.’ Also known as Amur Tigers, Siberian Tigers are among the largest breed of cats in the world, with males weighing between 180 and 306 kg (397 to 675 lb) and females between 100 to 167 kg (220 to 368 lb). Considered critically endangered, just 400 are estimated to be living in the wild. However, today Russian and international conservation efforts have managed to stabilise numbers over the last decade.
