Chattanooga Shooting Claims One More as Fifth Victim Passes

Four Marines and a sailor were killed in the attacks on military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee Thursday. Some of them had deployed overseas and seen battle, others had not. Lance Corporal Squire Wells, who was known as Skip, was swapping text messages Thursday with his girlfriend of 2 ½ years. He was excited that after months apart, she had booked a flight to visit him in Chattanooga.
Wells texted, "Can't wait anymore."
His next two words would be the last she'd ever hear from him: "ACTIVE SHOOTER."
It would not be until Friday that she learned his fate. As the nation mourned the Marines, Randall Smith, a logistics specialist in the U.S. Navy, clung to life in a hospital after suffering critical wounds in the attacks. He died early Saturday.
