More than 3,000 communists marched on the streets of Moscow to mark the 99th anniversary of the October Revolution, Monday.
The activists rallied at the Strastnoi Boulevard and then proceeded to march to the centre of the Russian capital. The activists waved red flags and carried portraits of Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Lenin.
Members of Russia's Communist Party also participated in the march. The rally was accompanied by a marching band and led by the leader of the Communist Party, Gennadi Zyganov.
The October uprising broke out in the city of Petrograd (now St. Petersburg) on November 7, 1917, which corresponds to October 24 in the Julian or Old Style calendar.
The revolution typically encompasses the period of the seizure of the Winter Palace, the arrest of the provisional government and the establishment of the revolutionary rule.
