The first-ever BRICS Parliamentary Forum got under way in Moscow, Monday, featuring over 100 lawmakers, delegates and participants from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The plenary meeting was hosted by Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, alongside Chairman of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin. Upon convening the meeting, Matvienko said that "the nice thing here is the unanimity and the political consensus that has been expressed today in support of the establishment of the BRICS Parliamentary Forum." Founded in 2008 and expanded to take in South Africa in 2010, the BRICS will have their seventh annual summit in the Russian city of Ufa in July.
