Lima's residents took to the streets on Friday, to protest the annual conference between the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) currently underway in the Peruvian capital. Thousands of protesters marched through Lima's streets, condemning the policies of the IMF and the World Bank as well as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement. An American flag was set on fire and then blown up during the rally. Peru is the first Latin-American country since 1967 to host a meeting of the IMF and the World Bank. The meeting is aimed at implementing the Sustainable Development Goals that had been agreed upon at the recent UN General Assembly in New York, including a more eco-friendly industrial policy. In this context, IMF and World Bank representatives are expected to discuss the amount of climate aid which will be provided for developing countries.
