A pub named 'The Punisher' opened its doors in Kiev, Thursday, giving visitors the opportunity to sup their beer while surrounded by memorabilia related to the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The walls are decorated with camouflage and political cartoons and a placard reads "parking for slaves" on the toilet door with handcuffs also attached. The menu also has unusual names for the dishes, with reports indicating that some printing houses refused to take it to their presses. Frogs legs are called 'friendly people,' a quail dish is listed as 'fried bullfinches' and the salmon dish is named the 'grilled militia.' The pub director, who introduced himself only as 'Igor,' said that the names of the dishes are a reaction to "false information that the Russian Federation has created and is constantly using against Ukraine." People fighting as part of the Donbass 'Anti-Terrorist Operation' (ATO) who visit the tavern are immediately entitled to at least a 15 percent discount, perhaps rising to 30 percent depending on whether they are wounded or disabled as a result of the recent conflict in the region. The pub has also announced that it will host a patriotic karaoke night, during which singer Joseph Kobzon will perform various songs. The institution is reported to have come under scrutiny from certain critics including Ukrainian political analysts Volodymyr Fesenko and Mikhail Pogrebinsky, who feel that the themes and decor undermine and make light of the situation in eastern Ukraine.
