23.10.2015
Thousands of Pretoria students from various educational institutions marched through the streets of Pretoria, ending up at the Union Buildings, Friday, to protest against hikes in tuition fees that has gained momentum at universities around South Africa. Protesters held banners, chanted slogans and danced in their way across the city. They then tried to scale fences to gain entrance to the building that houses the office of South African President Jacob Zuma. Prior to Zuma's Thursday address to parliament where he cancelled any rise in university fees for next year (2016), students were protesting against a proposed fee increase of 10 percent starting with the next academic year. The nation-wide action against the notion of a fee increase has roused a huge response among South Africans, with many protests over the course of the last week, ending up in clashes.
