Well-known Russian pop singer Jeanna Vladimirovna Friske, better known by her stage name of Zhanna Friske, was laid to rest aged 40 in Moscow on Thursday, after she lost her battle against brain cancer late on Monday. Friske was diagnosed in January 2014 and struggled against the disease for more than a year often travelling abroad for treatment. Internationally she is best known for her role in the Russian sci-fi blockbuster Night Watch, but in her home country she is famous for her music, having launched her career as a singer in 1996. She is leaves behind her one-year-old son and civil partner, the TV presenter Dmitri Shepelev.
