Greece: Tsipras calls on Greek people to vote 'no' in bailout referendum

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras called on the Greek people to vote 'no' in Sunday's referendum whilst speaking from Athens, Wednesday. Tsipras assured the Greek people that the referendum is not about "whether our country will stay in the eurozone or not" adding that voting "no means a pressure for a socially fair deal that will put the burden on those who have more money and not on the pensioners and the employees". Speaking from the Presidential House in Athens, Tsipras said that the "sirens of disaster" are blackmailing the Greek people, stating that "the creditors want you to say yes to everything, as the Greek politicians said the previous years". The Greek people will hold a referendum on July 5 to decide whether to accept the austerity measures imposed by the so-called "troika" (IMF, ECB, EC). The Greek government closed the country's banks on Monday, as well as imposing limits on withdrawals until July 6. A 'No' vote by the Greek people would reject new austerity measures that are demanded by Greece's creditors, while a 'Yes' would accept the institutions' conditions for a new Greek bailout package.
