Ukrainian-born journalist and politologist Anatoli Vasserman gave an interview in Moscow, Wednesday, following Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to sign a decree granting Vasserman Russian citizenship.
In September 2015, the Ukrainian Security Services launched a criminal case against Vasserman, accusing him of alleged separatism. Since that point, the journalist started the process of applying for Russian citizenship. "I knew that sooner or later I would get Russian citizenship because I supplied the [correct] documents," he said. "The fact that I have received the [Russian] citizenship, proves my merits to Russia as a whole and to the Russian Federation in particular," Vasserman added.
Moreover, the Ukrainian-born journalist intends to renounce his Ukrainian citizenship. "I do not see any reason to be a citizen of several parts of Russia at the same time," he said. "While I am a Ukrainian citizen, I remain vulnerable to terrorists who are destroying Ukraine at the moment," he added.
