Guinea: Several shot and scores injured in clashes in Conakry

Clashes broke out as protests raged in the Guinean capital of Conakry, Monday, as the opposition called for protests across the capital against the government of President Alpha Conde. Security forces deployed armoured cars as they faced off with protesters. Rioting broke out in several suburbs including Simbaye and Hamdallaye, as at least seven people were hit by gunfire and with opposition parties claiming over 30 were injured in the clashes. At least 17 were killed in protests in recent weeks in Conakry, with the United Nations calling for calm in the restive country.
