The Indian Prime Minister named the opening "a celebration of an abounding friendship" and said that this was only "a start of our collaboration in this field". He also thanked Russian and Indian workers for their "dedication and hard work".
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayaraman Jayalalithaa expressed her assurance that Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant would be able to supply the region and neighbouring states with energy.
The plant, situated in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, was built using the joint expertise of Russian and Indian specialists. It signifies a milestone in the long-term cooperation between Russia and India in the field of nuclear power and is the biggest Russian-Indian project in energy.
